By Vinod Nair — MUSCAT: May 7 - A total of 4,721 road accidents occurred across Oman in 2016, according to the figures released by the Royal Oman Police (ROP). Collisions topped the list with 2,076, followed by collision with fixed objects (1,125), overturn (792), pedestrian runover (562) and animal runover (166).
With regard to deaths, collision topped the list with 272, followed by pedestrian runover (149) and vehicle overturn (187). Maximum injures were reported from collisions (1,660), pedestrian runovers (315), overturns (674) and collisions with fixed objects (570). The maximum number of accident deaths were reported from North Al Batinah (116), Muscat (100), followed by Dhofar (87) and Al Dakhiliyah (89). Muscat tops the list of injuries (1,125) and accidents (1,812). Most accidents took place on Thursdays (743), followed by Tuesdays (702) and Sundays (686). Among the casualties, drivers topped the list with 298, passengers (238) and pedestrians (156).
